Indrahar Pass Trek Overview:

Set at an altitude of 14245 feet (about 4.3 km) approx. from sea level, The Indrahar Pass is located in the Dhauladhar range of the majestic Himalayas in the state of Himachal Pradesh, India. Indrahar Pass

The Adventure Begins-

The Mcleod Ganj-

Your journey to the clouds will commence from the small town of McLeod Ganj, set at an altitude of 6,831 feet (about 2.08 km) also nicknamed “Little Lhasa” known for Dalai Lama a spiritual Tibetan leader, near Dharamshala. Take your time and explore the famous Namgyal Monastery and the Tsuglagkhang Complex.

The start of this trek is marked with a sense of thrill and excitement through the dense forests, green meadows, and gushing streams with each step taking you higher and higher in the sky.

Triund-

Situated at a height of 2,875 meters (about 1.79 mi), Triund serves as your base camp where you can rejuvenate yourself. It is one of the highlights of the Indrahar Pass trek offering you scenic spots and majestic views of the Kangra Valley and the Dhauladhar range. Explore the ancient Shiva Temple and devote your prayers to lord shiva, this temple adds a spiritual touch in your trek.

Ascend from Triund-

The Descend-

Lahesh Cave-

As you descend after immersing yourself in the beauty and glory of The Indrahar Pass, you get to witness a miracle again “Lahesh Cave” at an altitude of 11,400 feet (about 3.47 km). This untouched cave is an architectural marvel created by nature itself, offering you a tranquil ambience. 

You can choose to spend some time and night in this cave, by exploring and resting inside. The cave is also believed to have been used by great sages who meditated within, marking a sign of spiritual significance.

Villages-

As you descend further down you will encounter the quaint villages on your way, located in the Dhauladhar Range. Spend time in these villages and interact with the locals to learn about their culture and traditions, don’t hesitate as they are very welcoming and hostile who will greet you in a friendly way. These villages will add charm to your trek, and create special moments captured in your memory forever.

Indrahar Pass Trek Details-

  • Trek Distance- 12 kilometres (about 7.46 mi).
    • Trek Time- It usually takes 10 hours to complete, but is mostly undertaken in 4-5 days.
  • Difficulty Level- Moderate difficulty level.
  • Best Time to Visit – May to Oct, during this time, the weather conditions are favorable.
  • Permits – Necessary permits are required before starting your trek from the Forest Department in McLeod Ganj.
  • Safety- Be responsible for your safety, and it is always advisable to be under the guidance of an expert guide. Adhere to the rules and regulations set for this trek.
    • Other Attractions- The Kareri Lake at an altitude of 3,300 meters (about 2.05 mi).
  • Essential Items- Carry proper trek gear (sturdy shoes, warm clothes, first aid kit), a backpack, enough water supply, and some snacks.
