Dreaming of travelling around the world and visiting some of the most popular cities in the world? I always dream of travelling the whole world and I am persistently trying to think of as many amazing places to visit as possible. These dreams are difficult to become reality because of the expenses and of course where would one find the time for such trips but for a traveller like us not too impossible, what say? I have my bucket list which fulls of dream destinations.
But taking short trips to various destinations around the world for a week or two at a time or even a long weekend is much more feasible don’t you think?
So I wrote this blog post as a part of the #Blogger Dream Team to jot down a few of the amazing places to visit that could be a reality. There are of course so many, if not thousands of places I can think to visit. But I will keep it fairly short and ask for you to suggest some of your dream destinations that I may have missed.
THE MALDIVES
The Maldives has been at the top of my wish list for all time and I’m sure you don’t need much convincing to put it on yours. Made up of 1,190 coral reef islands spanning 90,000 square kilometres are increasingly at risk of disappearing. The Maldives is home to some of the best diving in the world. Whales, sharks, turtles and manta rays – need I say more? The weather hovers around 30°C /86°F all year and is worth both your time and your money, whenever you have them!
PYRAMIDS OF GIZA
I am sure the Pyramids of Giza has been on everyone’s list of places to visit. It baffles the mind to wonder how on Earth did a civilization over 4,000 years ago could design, build and manage such a colossal development. Obviously, no visit to Egypt is complete without stopping in Giza to pay homage to the pyramids. It is probably the most “touristy” thing that you can do here, but it is also one of the most important.
GREECE
For every wanderlust, Greece may be the first preference or top priorities with its beautiful culture and scenic views. It’s easy to understand how so many myths of gods and giants originated in this vast and varied landscape, with wide open beautiful skies and a sea speckled with islands, where days melt from one to the next, while you relish the white-sand and palm-fringed beaches. But Greece offers endless activities and is a magnet for anyone who enjoys the great outdoors. Wander along cobbled, Byzantine footpaths, hike into volcanoes, watch for dolphins and sea turtles and cycle through lush forests. Greece also offers some of the world’s top kite surfing, diving and rock-climbing locations. Be brave. Be passionate. Be Greek.
BORA BORA
Undoubtedly the most celebrated island in the South Pacific, Bora Bora is French Polynesia’s leading lady. Her beauty is unrivalled and her fame, unwavering. Bora Bora is one of the few places on earth that everyone hopes to witness in their lifetime—and once you see it, you are forever enamoured.
PERU (MACHU PICCHU)
It has been some five centuries since the fall of the Inca Empire and one century since U.S. historian Hiram Bingham “rediscovered” the civilization’s most famous citadel, Machu Picchu, and history has come full circle. The hike up to these pre-Columbian ruins (which lie at 2,430 meters, or nearly 8,000 feet above the sea) is, quite literally, breathtaking. And what you’ll see from the top is a serene spot that’s frequently shrouded in an ethereal fog and perpetually blanketed in emerald green grass. It’s a place fit for a king, which of course is exactly why it was built in the first place. Perfect for those who like mysterious places and bit passionate about world history like me.
MOSCOW
As well as being attractive in a majestic kind of way, Moscow also bears the title of Europe’s largest city, with its ever-increasing population currently at 13.6 million. It also boasts more billionaires among its number than any other city in the world and in general has a reputation as being a high-cost place to live. Don’t let this put you off, however, because Moscow is packed full of history, creativity and culture.
PARIS, FRANCE
Ah, Paris! Who doesn’t love the city of Light? Montmartre, Versailles, the Champs-Élysées – the names of the city’s landmarks is the stuff of legend and romance.
Probably the greatest visual icon that represents Europe is the Eiffel Tower, which soars above the sidewalks, cafes and pastry stores of one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The Louvre is possibly the most amazing art museum in the world, and it’s just one of the incredible museums in the city. The Musée d’Orsay, Musée Rodin and the Pompidou Center are just three others.
ROME, ITALY
‘The Eternal City’ is the seat of the Roman Catholic Church, and as such has some of the most sublime art and architecture in the world, as well as the biggest church on Earth – St Peter’s Basilica. The city is distinguished from other magnificent European cities by the wealth of ancient sites still evident.
BARCELONA, SPAIN
Too beautiful to be gaudy, the city can really be described as ‘Gaudi’! The famous architect has left his mark throughout the city, which renders it utterly unique. The “Sagrada Familia” is the most famous, but there are dozens of incredible Gaudi buildings in the city, including Bodegas Güell, Casa Vicens, Casa Mila and Park Güell. This city is not only an architectural beauty though, as it’s beautifully located right on the sparkling Mediterranean sea!
STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN
Sweden may be renowned for its clean-cut designs and the flat-pack furniture that fills houses worldwide, but its historic charm rather than modern innovation which gives Stockholm its place in this list of beautiful cities. In the city centre, terrace buildings each clamber to stand out, providing beautiful palettes of block pastel colours. On the island of Gamla Stan, just a short bridge crossing away, the streets and cobbled squares are steeped in medieval history, complemented by museums, palaces and cathedrals dating as far back as the 13th century.
I tried to depict some beautiful dream destinations for the traveller but the list actually never-ending and it truly said by Jawaharlal Nehru “We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.”
